Ed’s Commentary

I began designing our solar packages to be affordable by all homeowners. To do this, I worked backwards, taking what a solar system produced, how much it would cost to finance it over just 5 years, and how to maximize what could be earned with the system. In short I found products and services where:

• A system that can be acquired with no down payment
• A system that is paid off in 5 years
• A system that will make the most for the homeowner

Owning an OntarioPVPower (OPVP) solar system is like owning your own utility company, one that you own and manage, without having to do anything to maintain it. There are virtually no risks to the investment, as the OPA is contracting to purchase all the power that your system produces for the next 20 years. (OK, the risk is the sun could never shine again, which would be a problem.)

Even though your OPA contract only covers 20 years, I expect that they continue to purchase the power your system produces. Your OPVP solar system will continue producing power for 20-25 years after the initial contract period.

I also expect that the rate that the OPA will offer future contracts will go down, as more contracts are approved, and as the cost of solar systems goes down. This will make contracts with 80.2 ¢ rates (what you can get now) more valuable.
