Enviromental Opportunity

Every now and again a series of events coincide that result in a unique opportunity becoming available. You may be fortunate enough to find out about it while you can act on it, you may find out too late, or may never learn of it. This is one that can still be acted upon.

On October 1^st 2009, the Ontario government launched the Feed In Tariff (FIT) program through the Ontario Power Authority (OPA). The program allows homeowners, farmers, community groups and businesses the opportunity to sell power from renewable sources (solar) to the OPA. The OPA will guarantee to purchase all the power produced, at very attractive rates, with a written contract for 20 years.

So what does this mean to you?

Simply put, you can install solar panels on your roof, and the OPA will guarantee to buy all the power you produce for the next 20 years at 80.2¢ per kW (kilowatt).

As we know the amount of sunlight that is available and what rate the solar panels convert power, we are able to calculate the amount of revenue that a rooftop solar system will generate over this time.

This means that you can earn an income from solar power production for the next 20 years. With no moving parts in the system to wear out, guaranteed power output of the panels for 25 years, a 100% uptime guarantee from the inverted manufacturer (they will pay you if their inverters fail) and the Ontario government (through the OPA) guaranteeing the contract, this is one amazing opportunity!
