Well yesterday I worked at helping a new customer get control of their microFIT contract. The previous company offered to help them get their microFIT contract by completing all the forms for them. They were assured that if they decided not to purchase a system from the company, the company would happily move the contract offer to them.
Good story, but not what happened. The customer was informed by the company that their contract offer was approved, but when the customer said they had decided to go with another installation company, suddenly the original company was not so willing to help move the contract. Not surprising as this meant the loss of business for them.
I urge you to apply for your own OPA account and contract, regardless of what other companies say. In my FAQ's I have instructions on how to complete you registration and contract application. If you get stuck, give me a call and I will be happy to help you, in person or over the phone. If you decide to have my company install your solar system, that's great but you decide, I won't force you to deal with me.
PS One last point, avoid signing anything with a company, until you are sure that you want that company to install a system for you, no matter how great the offer at the moment is. If it is great now, there is no reason it shouldn't be as good or better when you are ready to proceed. Some companies employ sales people that are paid on commission, so if you don't buy they don't get paid. They are not working in your best interests, but their own!
